Your company
Its name, people and roles, which apps are in the sample, leaving and deleting.
On this page
In short
- A company holds your apps, the address alerts go to, and the plan. Everyone in it sees and works on the same apps.
- Your first company is created with your first app, under the name you give it then. Without one, it takes the app's address, such as
myapp.com. - An admin also manages the company's name, its people, where alerts go and the plan. A member can read all of it.
Where in the app
The company's settings are the Company half of Settings. Settings has no entry in the sidebar. It opens from the account menu: click the row with your name at the foot of the sidebar, then click Settings. Your profile shows the menu.
In the list beside the page, the Company group sits below your own Profile group, with the company's name beside its title. It has four sections:
- General holds the company's name, its client reports, and how to leave or delete it.
- People lists the members and their roles, and sends invitations.
- Alerts sets where alerts go and which ones reach you. Alerts covers it.
- Apps holds each app's trust page and its place in the anonymous sample. Your trust page covers the first.
The old address /app/settings/workspace still works and opens this half. A dot beside Alerts means no alert can reach anyone yet.
Step by step
Open the company settings
Click the row with your name at the foot of the sidebar, then click Settings. In the list, click General under Company.
Rename the company
Under General, change Name and click Save changes. The top of the sidebar shows the new name.
Turn client reports on or off
Under Client reports on General, an admin flips the switch Monthly reports for your clients. It saves at once. Turning it off deletes no client, report or link. A member sees On or Off. Client reports covers the rest.
Invite someone
Click People in the list, then Invite people. Type the email address, choose Member or Admin and click Send invitation. The address appears under Waiting to join.
Change a role or remove someone
In the list of people, pick Admin or Member in a person's row. To take someone out, open the row's menu and click Remove from company. A removed person no longer sees the company.
Set where alerts go
Click Alerts in the list. Alerts walks through the address and the three switches.
Leave the company
On General, under Leave or delete, click Leave. In the window that opens, click Leave again. The next page lists the companies you belong to, or asks for a first app if you have none.
An invitation that was not answered can be sent again with Send again, or taken back with Withdraw. Whoever receives the email clicks the link in it, signs in or signs up, and joins.
On People, your own row carries the word You. A member sees every role as a word and has no controls to change it.
Leave the company
The only admin of a company cannot leave it. The row reads You are the only admin. Make someone else an admin before you leave. and Leave is greyed out. Make someone else an admin first.
Delete the company
Only an admin can delete the company. On General, under Leave or delete, click Delete. Type the company's name, then press and hold Hold to delete until it fills.
Deleting a company deletes its apps, their monitoring results, incidents and settings, and cannot be undone. Reports that read your code are deleted. Its other reports are kept without any tie to it, as described below. It does not cancel a paid plan with Stripe, so end the plan first: on Billing, click Manage billing. Plans and billing has the details.
What happens behind the scenes
A company is an organization in your sign-in account. Vallit keeps its own record of it and files every app, check and setting under exactly one company.
- Which company you are in comes from your sign-in, never from the web address. A link to an app in another company shows nothing from it.
- The account menu shows the one company you work in. It lists no other companies and has no entry for creating a new one.
- A company always keeps at least one admin: the last admin cannot be made a member, removed, or leave.
- The first company's name is what you typed under Company name when you added your first app. Left as it was, it is the app's address without a leading
www.. If that name is taken, Vallit adds a number, such asmyapp.com (2). - The first company sends alerts to the email you signed up with. Admins change that under Alerts.
- Each company has its own plan and its own monthly allowance of checks.
- After a company is deleted, its reports of the live site stay but lose every tie to it and to whoever asked for them. A shared report link keeps working until the report is 90 days old. Nobody can take such a report over.
- Reports that read the company's code are deleted with it, and their links stop working.
- After the delete, the next screen reads Your company is deleted. Nothing more is charged. once; a reload no longer shows it. A company with a plan that still charges cannot be deleted, so nothing charges after it.
