Troubleshooting

The error messages on the screens these docs cover, what each means and what to do.

In short

  • Find the message you see in the tables below. Each row says what it means and what to do next.
  • Messages are grouped by where they appear. An ellipsis (…) stands for your address, a name, a number or a provider's own words.
  • If your message is not listed, click Get help in the sidebar, or write to info@vallit.net. A person at Vallit reads it and answers by email.

Adding an app

These appear on the first-app screen, which asks for your app's address after sign-up, and in the Add an app dialog.

Only a check started on vallit.net without an account can be taken over.Enter your app's address and click Check my app. Vallit starts a fresh check.
A second app needs a paid plan first.In the dialog: without a plan, a company holds one app, and yours has one.Click Choose a plan in the dialog and add a place on Billing. Plans and billing shows how.
Your plan covers … apps. Move up a plan, or get in touch if you need more.Your company has as many apps as the plan allows.Move to a larger plan on Billing, or write to us.
That app is already on your account.This address is already an app in your company.Open the app from the sidebar.

When a check does not finish

These appear on the report page, under the heading We could not finish this check. The line can also be one of the address messages above.

The check could not be completed. Nothing was changed on your app. Try again, and get in touch if it keeps failing.Something failed on our side during the check.Start the check again. If it keeps failing, write to us.
The check stopped before it finished. Nothing was changed on your app. Run it again and it will usually complete.The check was cut off before it could finish.Start the check again.

To start again, click Run a check on the app's page in your company. Try another address on the report opens your company, or sign-up if you are not signed in.

Running a check from an app page

These appear under Run a check. The hourly limit per domain from Adding an app applies here too.

Signing in

These appear on the sign-in and sign-up screens. Signing in walks through each method.

Enter your email address.The email field is empty.Type your email address, then click Continue, or Create account on sign-up.
No account with that email yet.No account uses this email address.Click Create one, or enter the email you signed up with.
You already have an account.You tried to sign up with an email that already has an account.Click Sign in instead.

That code has expired. Send a new one.The code is too old to use.Click Resend code and enter the new code.
That password is not right.The password does not match this account.Try again, or click Forgot password? to set a new one.
That password showed up in a known leak. Choose a different one.The password appears in a public list of leaked passwords.Choose a password you have not used anywhere else.
Use at least 15 characters.The new password is shorter than Vallit asks for.Choose a password of 15 characters or more, for example a few unrelated words.
That password is too long. Try a shorter one.The new password is longer than the sign-in service accepts.Choose a shorter password.
That password is too easy to guess. Try a longer one.The password is too common or too simple.Choose a longer password.
That email address does not look right.The email address is missing a part, such as the @.Correct the address.
Too many attempts. Wait a minute and try again.There were many tries in a short time.Wait a minute, then try again.
This account is locked for a while after too many attempts.Sign-in is paused for this account.Wait, then try again. If it stays locked, write to us.
You are already signed in.This browser already has a session.Open app.vallit.net. It takes you to your company.
The check against bots did not pass. Try once more.The sign-in form could not confirm a person is using it.Try again.

Confirming your domain

These appear in the Connect your DNS panel on an app's page. Confirm your domain covers each provider.

What you seeWhat it meansWhat to do
We could not find a _vallit record on … yet. DNS changes can take up to an hour to travel. If you have just added it, try again shortly.The record is not visible on the internet yet, or it was not added.If you just added it, wait up to an hour and click Look for the record. Otherwise, add the record shown in the panel.
We could not read the DNS records for …. Check the domain is spelled correctly.The domain's DNS did not answer.Check the address of the app, then click Look for the record.
We found a Vallit record on …, but it holds a different code. Replace it with the one shown here.The record exists but holds an older or mistyped code.Replace its value with the one under Value, then click Look for the record.
We found records on …, but none of them is the Vallit one. Check you copied the whole value.A record exists at that name, but not with Vallit's value.Copy the whole value again, then click Look for the record.
That did not go through. Check your connection and try again.Your browser lost the connection to Vallit before the answer came back.Check your internet connection, then click the same button again.
Paste the token Cloudflare gave you.The token field is empty.Paste the token into Cloudflare API token.
That does not look like a Cloudflare API token.The pasted text is not in the shape of a token.Copy the whole token from Cloudflare and paste it again.
Cloudflare did not accept that token. Create a new one and try again.Cloudflare says the token is not active.Create a new token at Cloudflare and paste it.
That token cannot see …. When you create it, give it DNS · Edit for that zone.The token has no access to your domain.Create a token with DNS · Edit for that domain.
Cloudflare refused the record: …Cloudflare returned an error, and the message ends with Cloudflare's own words.Fix what the message says, or add the record by hand with the lines above the token field.
Cloudflare did not answer. Try again in a moment.Cloudflare did not respond in time. Nothing was added.Wait a moment, then click Add the record again.

Connecting your code

These appear on an app's Connect your code page.

GitHub did not answerGitHub did not respond. Nothing was changed.Wait a moment, then click Try again, or pick the same repository again.
That repository is not shared with usGitHub no longer lists the repository for the Vallit GitHub App.Click Share on GitHub, add the repository there, then pick it again.
That did not workGitHub did not confirm that your account can see the installation.Click Start again, signed in to the GitHub account that installed the app.
Waiting for an organization ownerGitHub sent your install request to an owner of the organization.Come back once an owner approves it.
No repository shared yetThe Vallit GitHub App has no repository to read.Click Share on GitHub, share the repository behind this app, then reload this page.
GitHub did not finish connectingThe way back from GitHub expired or could not be checked, so nothing was connected. It shows on the connect page, or on Home when the app is not known.Click Start again. On Home, open your app and click Connect GitHub again.

Alerts

These appear under Alerts in the company settings, where you choose where alerts go.

What you seeWhat it meansWhat to do
Only an admin of your company can change where alerts go.You are a member of this company, not an admin.Ask an admin to change it.
Add the address alerts should go to, or switch email alerts off.Send alerts by email is on, but Where to send it is empty.Enter an address or switch alerts off, then click Save addresses.
That does not look like an email address.The alert address is missing a part, such as the @.Correct the address, then click Save addresses.
“…” does not look like an email address.One of the lines under Also send to is not a full address. The line is named.Correct that line, then click Save addresses.
Add at most … more addresses.Also send to holds more than four addresses.Remove the extra lines, then click Save addresses.
We could not save that. Try again in a moment.Saving failed on our side. Nothing changed.Wait a moment, then click Save addresses again.
That did not go through. Check your connection and try again.A switch could not reach Vallit, so it went back to where it was.Check your connection, then flip the switch again.

Asking us to fix something

Plans and billing

These appear on Billing. Plans and billing explains each state of a plan.

Pages that do not load

There is nothing hereThe line under it reads It may belong to a company you are not part of. The page is not in the company you are in.Sign in with the account of the company it belongs to, or click Back to overview.
There is nothing hereAn address under app.vallit.net/updates/ has no page, such as a release without a page of its own.Click All updates.

The button beside a reference copies it, and a small Copied bubble confirms the copy. If the bubble reads Not copied, your browser did not let the page copy: select the reference and copy it with your keyboard.
